In preparing some blood for observation with a microscope, a student puts a drop of blood into a test tube containing 2 cm3 of water. After mixing, he examines a drop of the mixture. Explain why he cannot see any blood cells under the microscope.

Although it is not my area of expertise, could it be that the specific gravity of the cells have caused them to drop to the bottom of the test tube?
