Question

Would Ca(HCO3)2 be
calcium hydrogen carbonate?

Answers

Steve
more commonly called calcium bicarbonate
Bryce
how do you name them? Im so lost
DrBob222
I think calcium hydrogen carbonate is the IUPAC name.
Bryce
What is the IUPAC name? Im supposed to be naming the polyatomic ions
DrBob222
The HCO3^- polyatomic ion is hydrogen carbonate. Bicarbonate, as Steve has told you, is, by far, the most common name. If you are "supposed to be naming the polyatomic ion" then hydrogen carbonate ion is the name you want to use.
Bryce
Why would you not keep calcium in there as well though? Why is it not listed in the name?
DrBob222
You said you were naming polyatomic IONS; therefore, I named the ion and not the compound. If you want Ca(HCO3)2 then it would be calcium hydrogen carbonate
