    We must assume that the two planes are flying in the same plane, which is not a good idea . (Sometimes the English language is just plain silly.)
Let the distance between them be x miles
then by the cosine law ....
x^2 = 32^2 + 76^2 - 2(32)(76)cos 49°
solve for x
