It is C because there are various causes for depression. Depression tends to depend on the person and their situations, but then it can also depend on their genetics. Considering there are so many large ranges and since depression itself is such a broad term, there is not a single cause or situation. (Just as another note, I have finished the exam, and it is "C. There is no known cause" :D )
