x= unknown number

1/3x-36=22 is the equation

next line
1/3x=22+36
1/3x=58

You must do the inverse operation on both sides of the equation.
(1/3x-36+36=22+36)--> (1/3x=58)

next line
x=174

Again do the inverse operation on both sides. (3/1 x 1/3x=3/1 x 58)-->(x=174)
