Calculate the concentration in ppm if 8 grams of CaCl2 is dissolved in 250 ml of water.

1 answer

1 mg/L = 1 ppm
You have 8 g/250 mL = 8000 mg/250 = 8000 x (1000/250) = ??
1 ppm is supposed to be 1 g solute in 1,000,000 g total. In small concns it is ok to ignore the mass of the solute in calculating the final mass of the solution but 8 g/250 mL is hardly small. With no density this is about the best I can do.
