x^2 - 22 x = 11 get x^2 and x terms on left, number on right. divide if necessary to make the coef of x^2 one.
(22/2)^2 = 121 take half the coef of x and square it
x^2 - 22 x + 121 = 132 add it to both sides
(x-11)^2 = 132 factor the left now - it has to be a perfect square
x = 11 +/- sqrt(132) take the square root of ghhgt
x = 11 +/- 2 sqrt(33) factor 132 and take the 4 out as 2
