if you divide this number by 2 you will get 3 multiplied by 6. Subtract 3 groups of 3 and you will get 3 multiplied by 9.

I am so confused trying to help my 8 year old figure this out i have come up with 9 then 36 then 0

Take the information that you have been give a step at atime.
3 x 6 = 18
You divide the number by 2 to get this, so the number is 36.
To confirm this take 3 x 3 (=9) from it and you will get 27.
This is equal to 3 x 9.
