The problem is 6 + -x/2 = 14 My answer is x = 16. The "correct" answer is -16 but I don't understand this solution.

6+ -x/2=14
6-x/2 = 14
multiply both sides by 2
2*6 -2(x/2) = 2*14
12-x=28
move 12 to right hand side.
-x=28-12
combine terms
-x=+16
multiply both sides by -1 (to get +x and not -x)
x = -16
