The measures of two of the sides of an equilateral triangle are 3x + 15 in. and 7x – 5 in. What is the measure of the third side in inches?

Answered by Ms. Sue
3x + 15 = 7x - 5

20 = 4x

5 = x

Ya gotta watch out for Ms. Sue; she's a sly one. Notice how she solved for x, but she left it up to to actually answer the question!

Ms. Sue is wrong.
equilateral triangle means all the sides are the same.
x=5 yes but you have the x's with the five and then solve the equation so it will be this.

3(5)+15=30
7(5)-5=30
now that you know these sides equal 30 the third side equals 30 as well be it is an equilateral triangle.
