what does the word discipline mean when it refers to riting? i have tried looking in a few dictionaries but i cannot find it

First of all there is a world of difference between "writing" and "riting!" Referring to "writing" the following dictionary from the Etymology Dictionary, I'd select: ""branch of instruction or education" as the best definition.
