The word you really want to use to decribe the ancient historical period is "Hellenistic", not "Hellenic".
"Hellenic" basically just means "Greek" and is applied to modern as well as ancient Greece, which is called The Hellenic Republic" or "Hellas" by its citizens. Ms.Sue has given you a very good article to the Hellenistic peiod
