There are 20 red and blue pens in abox. There are 3times as many blue pens as red pens? How many red pens are there? How many blue pens are there?

20 + 60 = 80

Think of it this way:

You really have 4 groups of pens in that box of 20 pens. One group is red and the other 3 groups are blue.

Divide 20 by 4. What do you get?

That answer is the number of red pens.
Three times that answer is the number of blue pens.
