What is the rhetorical explanation of this phrase: "I would have aced that test if I weren't in a class full of brainiacs. They studied too much and ruined the curve!"

The phrase is already a rhetorical explanation, because it blames the low grade upon the more studious habits of the rest of the class, who are disparaged as "brainiacs". It tries to shift the blame to them.
