I was reading through some information about Amelia Douglas since I'm doing a biography on her, and I came to know that she had saved her husband Jame's life. I tried to make sense out of what I was reading, but I could only gather information that I understood.

Amelia's father, William Connolly had to lead the fur brigades away from Fort St. James, and young James Douglas was left in charge. Then something happened that caused the Carrier Indians to get upset, and they were led by chief Kwah. I don't get what exactly happened...
Something big happened that made the Carrier Indians really mad, that they threatened James's life, and after hearing about this commotion, Amelia rushed from her appartment, grabbed a dagger from one of the Indians, and came to her husband's defense. Amelia and the interpreter's wife begged the Chief for mercy, and to avoid bloodshed. The she began throwing down trade goods to the crowd for some reason...

The Indians were upset because James Douglas had executed an accused criminal.

Amelia gave the trade goods to the Indians. This satisfied them, and they left.

Why did James Douglas execute that criminal? Had that criminal killed some of his people of the NWC?

The only thing I found was that the criminal had killed someone.

Oh okay:) Thank you. Yeah I think he had killed some people of the Hudson Bay along with another person, but that other person had been caught long before, only this one was left remaining, but now I'm getting confused because I thought James was still working for the NWC, why would he care for the HBC?

James Douglas was the colonial governor of the region. It was his duty to execute murderers.
