denominator of a fraction is 1 more than its numerator. the fraction reduces to one fourth when numerator is reduced by 2 and denominator is increased by 3. find the number

Oriningal fraction ---- x/(x+1)

new result:

(x-2)/(x+4) = 1/4
cross-multiply
4x - 8 = x+4
3x = 12
x = 4

(4-2)/(5+3) = 2/8
