ken cuts a 10fo piece of wire, the first piece is three times longer then the second how long is each piece?

short piece --- x
longer piece -- 3x

solve x + 3x = 10
4x = 10
x = 10/4 or 2.5 feet

short piece = 2.5 ft
longer piece = 7.5 feet
