Not sure how to word it. But 9 x 9 is 81, right? 81 is a multiple of 3 because 9 is a multiple of 3. Another example, 7 x 6 is 42. 2 and 3 go into 6 which goes into 42. Its confusing at first but I hope i helped.
Lemme summarize. You cant get 9 without 3. Just like you cant get 108 without 1,2,3,4,6,9,12,18,27,36,54,and 108. What do those numbers have in common?
Sorry if I was no help. But if you know what a factor tree is it may help....
EX:
108
/ \
2 x 54
/ \
27 x 2
/ \
3 x 9
/ \
3 x 3
