"six people can paint a house in 3 days"
is a direct proportion.
Since more people will paint in less days, it is <i>not</i> a direct proportion.

It is easier if we convert it to a direct proportion by saying:
"six people can paint 1/3 of a house each day"
so:

6 people : 1/3 of a house per day
1 person : 1/18th of a house per day.
2 people : 1/9th of a house per day,

so it takes 2 people 9 days to paint a house.
