sec^4(x) - tan^4(x) =
= (1 + tan^2(x))^2 - tan^4(x)
= 1 + 2tan^2(x) + tan^4(x) - tan^4(x)
= 1 + 2tan^2(x)

= 1 + 2tan^2(x) + tan^4(x) - tan^4(x)
= 1 + 2tan^2(x)
