According to my calculator, the square root of 18 = 4.2426 and the square root of 32 = 5.6569

It probably says simplify, not "solve"
√18 + √32
= √9√2 + √16√2
= 3√2 + 4√2 = 7√2

Scott,
If you post expressions involving mathematical symbols, it is best to switch the encoding to Western ISO-8859-1 which is available under "view/character encoding (on Firefox) or "view/Encoding" under Internet Explorer (Western European).

This way, you can take advantage of all the math symbols available.
