i don't entirely know about the spanish american war, but world war one was caused by many things. high tensions formed by various alliences, nationalism and the dividing of africa among european powers, had put the world on edge. these tensions exploded when a young serbian student assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand,of austria. war broke out, and because of the alliances between various nations, almost all of eurpoe was pulled into war. the us remaned nutral for the first part of the war. however, when a ship carrying supplies and passenger, some of which were american, was sunk by a german submariene the US vowed revenge and joined the great war on the side of the allies. with american aid, the central powers were defeated at the battle of the bulge. the war drew to a close with the sighning of the treaty of versille. (I forgot how to spell that so don't take my word on spelling but i'm an excelent historian.)
