2x^2 -12x +23=2*(x^2-6x+23/2)
(x-a)^2= x^2-2ax+a^2
(x-3)^2= x^2-2*3*x+3^2= x^2-6x+3^2
2*(x^2-6x+23/2)=
=2*(x^2-2*3*x +3^2+ 23/2 -3^2)
=2(x^2-6x+3^2)+2*(23/2)-2*(3^2)
=2*(x-3)^2+23-2*9
=2*(x-3)^2+23-18
=2*(x-3)^2 +5
Proof:
2*(x-3)^2+5=2*(x^2-2*3*x+3^2)+5
=2*(x^2-6x+9)+5
