Conservation is making sure that both renewable and nonrenewable resources aren't consumed faster than they can be replaced. So that there will be a sufficient amount for the next generations to use. Conservationists are aware that humans need to use some resources, as long as it is not harmful or wasteful.
Whereas preservation is maintaining areas of the earth that haven't been touched by man in the same condition. Preservationists believe that rainforests or any other ecosystems should be left alone, regardless of the usefullness of humans.
