While the idea that Poe might have died from Phrenitis isn't unreasonable, something about the alleged "cause of death" doesn't align. If he truly did succumb to Phrenitis after stepping outside for some fresh air, how did no one witness him collapse? It was election night, so it seems improbable that no one was around the windows to see him. This raises the unsettling question of whether he actually died from Phrenitis, or whether he was a victim of cooping instead.
rephrase this: Not that it is an illogical assumption that Poe could have very well died of Phrenitis, but something just does not match up with the supposed "cause of death." If he did die of Phrenitis, and supposedly went outside before he died to get a breath of fresh air, why did nobody immediately see him fall? It was an election night, and I find it impossible that there was not a single soul near the windows to see him. Which can't help but beg the question that he didn't really die of Phrenitis, but instead, cooping.
