5x-10=2x-7
Add 10 to both sides.
5x=2x+3
Subtract 2x from both sides.
3x=3
Divide both sides by 3.
x=1
This way is the more common method although Emily did get the correct answer.

I'm in 7th grade too but I studied this last year so:
5x-10=2x-7
-2x -2x
3x-10= -7
+10 +10 (because -10 and -7 are -)
3x = 3 Then divide out
x=1
5x-10=2x-7
-2x -2x
3x-10= -7
+10 +10 (because -10 and -7 are -)
3x = 3 Then divide out
x=1
