Your thesis statement must include factual information plus your position/opinion/stance. Without your position on the topic, it isn't a true thesis statement. So think of this sentence as the angle you want to take on the topic and what you intend to prove by the end of your paper. (If your statement is simply factual, then there's nothing to prove!)

This is one of the very best places I've seen online to help students write good thesis statements. It shows you sentences that aren't thesis statements and how to turn each one into real thesis statements.

Only you can write this because you must be able to state your own opinion/position/stance on the topic. Once you've drafted a thesis statement, feel free to post it if you'd like someone here to check it.

Let us know what your position/opinion/stance is, and then we can help.
I'm writing an argument paper on school uniforms. I have wrote a thesis statement and need to have it checked. Any tips to improve would be helpful. Thanks!

School uniforms should be required in all public schools because not only do they cut down on the testing and bullying but they also help students have a better focus on school, and save parents money on clothes.
testing? You have to be kidding.
Overall, I am wondering what you will use to support your arguements other than opinion.

Words such as better focus are difficult to argue.

Think on this, or a variation of this:
Mandatory school uniforms have positive benefits: Removal of peer pressure to be one up on the latest fashion trends; and bringing the focus back to involvement in academic growth.

If you can find evidence for that, it would be fun arguing.
