I cannot figure this out! I know that the top is essentially the same as the bottom. SO what do I do?
(r^2-64)/(r+8)^2=
(r^2-64)/(r^2+64)=
0 ?

do it this way ...

(r^2-64)/(r+8)^2
= (r+8)(r-8)/[(r+8)(r+8)]
= (r-8)/(r+8)
