As a medical assistant in a pediatric office, my job is to make both the newborn and the parent feel comfortable during their visit. If the parent seems very concerned about the procedures, here’s how I would talk to them:
"Hi there! I understand that it can be a bit worrying when it comes to your newborn. I want to assure you that everything we're doing today is important for your baby's health.
Measuring your baby’s height, weight, and head and chest circumference helps us track their growth and make sure they are developing correctly. These checks are very simple and quick.
You can stay right here with your baby the whole time, and I will handle everything as gently as possible. If you have any questions or if there's something specific that’s on your mind, please feel free to ask! I’m here to help you and your baby feel safe and comfortable."
By speaking calmly and offering reassurance, I hope to ease the parent's worries while completing the necessary checks for the newborn.
