Square-root both sides. Remember to do "±" on the right-hand side. x + 3 = ± 4
Solve for "x =". Remember that the "±" gives you two solutions. Simplify as necessary. x = – 3 ± 4
= – 3 – 4, –3 + 4
= –7, +1
