    #1: work with y^2
4(y^2)^2 - 13y^2 + 9 = 0
(y^2 - 1)(4y^2 - 9) = 0
so, y^2 = 1 or 9/4
y = ±1 or ±3/2
#5: group things up
(2-13)(x^2 - 5) = -20
-11(x^2-5) = -20
x^2-5 = 20/11
x^2 = 75/11
x = ±√(75/11) = ±5√(3/11) or ±5/11 √33
#6,7: work with x^1/3 as we did with y^2 in #1.
do the others in like manner. If you get stuck, come on back for further help.
