Question

Active and Passive Verb Voice

HOW VERBS FUNCTION

Verbs have either active voice or passive voice. These are not verb types. It is one way sentences can function.

-Passive Voice Explanation: The action of the verb in the sentence IS NOT being done by the subject.
Passive Voice Example: The truck was driven by my older sister.

Active Voice Explanation: In an active voice sentence, the subject is performing an action.
Active Voice Example: My older sister drove the truck.

NOTE: A passage written in active voice is often viewed as more interesting, more direct, and has the subject of the sentence performing the action. Therefore, sentences using active voice are generally seen as stronger sentences and are often considered better choices for one’s writing.
