Could you give me some examples from the poem that you think show Allan not being able to go on with his life because of his wife's death? If not then thank you very much anyway.
The best example is the last four lines:
"And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride,
In the sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea. "
Many other lines attest to his love for her.
