Answers
Reiny
no, but close
I multiplied each term by 100
520x - 1 < 20x + 360
500x < 361
x < 361/500
x < .722

okay, but what about a repeating decimal like 0.4444...+ x =1?
Would you use the equation:
10n= 4.4444
n= 0.4444
to equal 4/9 then, 4/9 + x =1
x= 1 - 4/9
x= 2/3 ?

Reiny
0.4444...+ x =1
4/9 + x = 1
x = 1 - 4/9
x = 9/9 - 4/9
= 5/9
How did you get 2/3 ?????
4/9 + x = 1
x = 1 - 4/9
x = 9/9 - 4/9
= 5/9
How did you get 2/3 ?????

I didn't change the one to 9/9 to match the other denominator. I used 1/1 and totally missed it! Thanks for pointing that out.
