Final Project Plan
Artist Influence: For my final project, I have drawn inspiration from the works of Jackson Pollock and Yayoi Kusama. Pollock's emphasis on action painting and the emotional energy he captured through his drip techniques resonate with my desire to create dynamic, bold visuals. Meanwhile, Kusama's use of repetition, color, and immersive environments inspires a sense of obsession and infinity that I want to explore in my own work.
Project Idea: My project will be a multimedia installation titled "Eternal Drip." It will consist of large-scale canvases that incorporate Pollock's drip technique along with immersive elements influenced by Kusama's polka dot motifs. I plan to create a series of canvases where I will layer paint using unconventional tools (like brooms or squeegees) to produce a three-dimensional texture. Over these canvases, I will add fabric panels dotted with LED lights, creating an interplay between the static and dynamic elements of the installation.
In putting my spin on it, I want to incorporate a narrative that reflects the tension between chaos and order – how the randomness of Pollock’s style can coexist with the repetitive patterns of Kusama. I will incorporate audio elements, using field recordings of nature and urban environments to enhance the sensory experience, suggesting a dialogue between the external world and the internal chaos of human emotion.
Goal for the End Result: The end result will be an immersive environment that invites viewers to engage fully with the space. My goal is for the installation to inspire contemplation on how our personal histories are layered over time, much like the layers of paint on canvas. I hope to create an emotional resonance that encourages people to reflect on their relationship with chaos and order in their own lives.
Skills and Techniques Utilized: Throughout this project, I plan to apply the mixed media techniques I have learned in previous classes. I will use layering techniques, color theory, and texture creation, alongside digital media for the audio components. The use of installation art will also push my knowledge of spatial design and audience engagement. Additionally, I will be utilizing methods of documentation, such as video and photography, to capture the process and final presentation, allowing for further exploration of the themes post-exhibition.
Progress Completed and Next Steps: So far, I have created several test pieces that incorporate elements of both drip painting and dot patterns, experimenting with color palettes and textures. I have also begun drafting my installation design, considering how to best utilize space for viewer interaction.
Next, I need to complete the following steps:
- Finalize the designs for the large canvases and get the materials needed for painting.
- Create the fabric panels and integrate the LED lights.
- Develop the audio elements and test how they will integrate with the visual components.
- Assemble everything in the installation space, ensuring smooth transitions and interactions for viewers.
- Lastly, I will document the installation process and the final display to reflect on the work and gather feedback for future projects.
Overall, the progression of this project combines my artistic influences and the skills I have developed, and I look forward to the innovative outcomes that will emerge through the creative process.
