Question

Hello. Please help me understand the sentence:
"I took my picture" (does it mean that I photographed myself or that I took it into my hands just like a book or a scarf).
And if I photographed myself, is it possible to say "I took a picture of myself"?
Thank you for help.

"I took my picture" could mean either of the two possibilities you wrote above, but I think your revised sentence with "myself" in it is better for the "I took my own picture" idea.
