What method?

x^2 + 16x + 4 = 0
I would use completing the square ...
x^2 + 16x + 64 = -4 + 64
(x+8)^2 = 60
x+8 = ± √60
x = -8 ± 2√15

Using the formula will of course yield the same answer after some simplification.
