    The predict? Or the predicate?
The predicate in any sentence is the main verb and all the words that go with it. You can usually draw a line between the subject and the verb and the predicate will be everything after the line. Where would you draw the line between subject and verb in this sentence?

The simple predicate ( verb) is were abused. The complete predicate is - were physically abused in horrible ways
The complete subject is "the naval aviators"; the simple subject is "aviators".
