I don't know what "E" means. If it is exponent, an exponent is indicated online by "^" (e.g., x^2 = x squared).
8 - (2^3 - 9) = 8 - (8-9) = 8 -(-1) = 8 + 1 = 9
8 - (2^3 - 9) = 8 - (8-9) = 8 -(-1) = 8 + 1 = 9
