If a train is traveling to the north with constant velocity and a passenger drops a marble directly over an x on the ground, why does the marble land on the x?

If the train is moving faster than a snail's pace and the x is on the ground, the marble will not land on the x. If the x is on the ground of the train bed, the marble will land on the x because the x is moving at the same rate as the marble.
