us proportions, then cross multiply:
5/7 = 14/x
5*x = 7*14
5x = 98
5x/5 = 98/5
x = 19.6 inches in length
5/7 = 14/x
5*x = 7*14
5x = 98
5x/5 = 98/5
x = 19.6 inches in length

This is a good problem for a proportion. Let x equal the new length.
5/14 = 7/x
Cross multiply:
5x = 98
x = 19.6
5/14 = 7/x
Cross multiply:
5x = 98
x = 19.6
