the width of a rectangle is 1 ft less than the length, the area is 6 ft^2, what is the length and width? thank you

L^2 -L -6 = 0
(L-3)(L+2) = 0
take it from there

L(L-1)=6
solve for L
L^2-L-6=0
(L-3)(L+2)=9
L=3, W=2
