Need help with this activity:

'Write a proposal suggesting ways for the Odyssey to be made into a movie that's set in the present. Imagine that the readers of the proposal will be the producers of the movie. Explain how you would modernize the epic.'

So how do I make the following things modern?

Trojan War is background
Hero is soldier who fought in war
He travels around Mediterranean and down to underworld
He uses ships with oars and sails
He meets Lotus Eaters, Sirens, Cyclops, Scylla and Charybdis.
He is tempted by Calypso and Circe.
Fortune hunters at home hound his wife.
Dog lives on garbage heap.
Son is insulted.
Gods affect the action.

Those are the main points.... now, put those into today's world. Say this person is on his way back from the war in the Near East. Who might he meet? What temptations might he run into. What might be happening to his wife in today's ecomomy? What problems might his son be having? This could be a really neat story.
