solve algebraically for 8x-y=4 and 5x 3y=17

1 answer

I can't read the sign on the 3y on the second equation.
In any event, multply the first equation by 3, then you have
24x-3y=12

then add or subtract that from the second equation to eliminate the y terms, then solve for x. Put that x back into either original equation to solve for y.
