How do I find out the distance someone needs to go if they are at 5/8 km, and have to go 7/8 km?

If you have gone 5/8 miles, and you still have 7/8 miles to go, the total distance you have to go is
(5/8 + 7/8) miles

notice you already have a common denominator, so it should be easy to finish.
