There's some difference between "try" and "join" in these sentences.
~~"try" implies that the person will attend a few meetings and decide later if he/she will join or not.
~~"join" means he/she has decided to join.
~~"try" implies that the person will attend a few meetings and decide later if he/she will join or not.
