First of all, please do not use capital letters because they are much more difficult to read, and in computer language it is considered rude = much like shouting.

When you say "Spanish" must it be a person from Spain, or anyone with a Spanish surname?

In California, César Chávez made a great difference, but he was Mexican.

P.S. If this person must be from Spain, consider the following:
1. Ponce de León claimed Florida for Spain.
2. Father Junipero Serra led the first settlers to California.
