Marla has 16 nickles and pennies. She has 3 times as many pennies as nickels. What is te total value of the coins?
I don't know how to come up with home many nickels..Can someone help?

divide the coins into four equal numbered piles. How many coins are in each pile? Three of those piles is pennies, and one is nickles. So what it the value of the money?

n + p = 16

3n = p

4n = 16; n = 4; p = 12
