Below is a scenario. I have to figure out what they are experiencing. I believe it would be the flu or something close to that. If it is wrong can you please correct me?
Dear Melissa,
I’m sending little Jimmy over for a stat spinal tap. He has had a fever for a couple of days, which increased to 102 degrees today. Since yesterday he’s been complaining of a headache and stiff neck. His mother said last week he had gone swimming in the pond by their barn and started feeling ill a few days later. Fax results ASAP.

Would the flu be the right nervous system disease for this scenario?

This sounds more serious than just the flu. Not being a medical doctor I'd want a doctor who's an expert. One would not have a spinal tap for flu. Ouch!

I would consider Meningitis, as it progresses rapidly, and can lead to death very rapidly if not treated quickly. I wonder about the Faxing results if the kid already has a fever of 102, I think I would do fax and a telephone call.
