What are you comparing speaking English to? A specific language other than English? Not speaking any language? Writing in English? Where are you speaking English? Each of these would have specific advantages — and disadvantages.
Consider how much of the world population speaks or understands English.

Whereas French used to be the language of international business, English has seemed to replace that. For example, if you are doing business with Russia or China, the 2nd language there would be English. Also, the foreign language studied world-wide is most apt to be English.
